Wise Traditions

The Wise Traditions podcast is for those who seek optimal health, based on ancient wisdom. We believe that vibrant health cannot be cultivated in a lab, engineered through modern technology or found through “improving” nature. On the contrary, “life in all its fullness is mother nature obeyed,” as Dr. Price put it. We thrive when we live as our ancestors did, and we can look to the past for clues on how to go about it. This show, sponsored by the Weston A. Price Foundation, is an invitation to follow ancient health ways and to embrace alternative healing modalities to live our best lives. Our host, Hilda Labrada Gore, known as Holistic Hilda, interviews experts on a wide variety of topics—ranging from nutrient-dense foods to improving mental health to homesteading to detoxing to healing emotional trauma to the power of sunshine and mitigating EMFs. Every episode offers the listener a new (ancient) way to heal, grow, and live a happy life, brimming with vitality.

Man-made pharmaceutical drugs and chemicals are making their way into our drinking water at unprecedented levels. What’s happening exactly and what can we do about it? Carrie Jennings, a field geologist who works with Freshwater, a leading public nonprofit dedicated to preserving freshwater resources and their surrounding watersheds, answers these questions and more.

Today, Carrie explains how antibiotic use on farms, and residue from anti-inflammatories, antidepressants, and other pharmaceutical drugs end up contaminating our waters. She goes over the worst toxins, dubbed “forever chemicals,” and tells us how to avoid them when making purchases. And she offers suggestions for what each of us can do to protect the quality of our water for our own health and the sake of everyone in our local community.

There is much frustration and confusion surrounding everything that’s happened in the past 12+ months, related to COVID-19. Lockdowns, shuttered businesses, curfews and more have left a lot of us scratching our heads… and asking important questions. Dr. David Martin, the Founder and Chairman of M-CAM Inc., is an author, public speaker, and innovator who has done a lot of research on our current state of affairs.

Today, David offers key facts that help us understand this state of emergency from a different perspective. He reveals how the CDC filed a patent application on SARS-CoV in the early 2000s and explains why this is important. He discusses evidence that indicates that SARS-CoV2 has been manipulated to limit freedom and compromise our health. He unpacks the legal and health contradictions of new COVID treatments like the mask and the vaccines. And he offers insights on what each of us can do to fight for health freedom.

Mark Sisson, New York Times best-selling author and former endurance athlete, covers the benefits of flexibility on a number of levels. He discusses how to train our metabolism to run more efficiently. As we develop this "metabolic flexibility" – a reliance on fats and ketones for energy – we will likely reduce hunger pangs, burn body fat and increase our energy in the process.

He also reminds us of the need to develop flexibility in other aspects of our lives. The ability to "roll with the punches" is needed now more than ever.

Today, Sam introduces us to the many foods growing underfoot--from ferns to flowers to what we call "weeds." He tells stories of his adventures foraging and offers insights into the story of Chris McCandless, whose story was told in the movie "Into the Wild." Sam describes the bounty of his own pantry replete with wild walnuts, hazelnuts, wild rice, ramps, and plums. "Good Vibrations" was the title of a song by a group called the Beach Boys from the 1970s. It was a catchy upbeat tune that instantly lifted your mood. But cultivating good vibrations when life can get overwhelming and depressing necessitates more than just a song. It requires internal & spiritual work to foster a healthy outlook and mindset. Biohacker Luke Storey, the host of the Life Stylist Podcast, is a motivational speaker, and a kundalini yoga and meditation teacher. Today, he offers insights for developing good vibrations based on primal health and ancient spiritual practices that he’s applied in his own life.

Luke shares tools for dealing with negative emotions and crazy thoughts. He talks about what helps him deal with whatever life throws his way and how he cultivates true compassion and radical forgiveness. He also talks about how to handle vibrations/frequencies (such as non-native electromagnetic fields) that jeopardize our health on a number of levels.

A panel of experts today explains how we can benefit from cold therapy, offering practical first steps for those who are new to the practice. They also cover the problems with artificial light and the importance of getting more sunlight on our skin. They share how living more in tune with nature, as our ancestors did, can help alleviate a host of health conditions and reinvigorate the body.

The panelists are Dr. Mike T. Nelson, Katie Newman, Thaddeus Owen, Christa Rymal, Heidi Sime, and Nic Zahasky.

Today, Jim tells the story of what happened to him and his colleagues. We also hear from Joe Ordia of the Virginia Freedom Keepers and Patty Healy of the National Vaccine Information Center.

All three individuals share their perspectives on the encroachment of health freedoms and what we can do to take our health into our own hands.

The earliest recipes we have, from Samaria, are all for broth. Yes, bone broth made with bones, tendons, and cartilage! It may sound foreign to us now, but it's time to rediscover this wise tradition. Sally Fallon Morell, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation, today reviews principle #10 of the 11 wise traditions dietary principles: how all traditional peoples included bones in their diet, typically in the form of a gelatin-rich broth.

Sally explains how broths and stews have many benefits for us. Among other things, they are a great source of collagen – good for our mood, and detoxing – and glycine – good for our skin, liver, and heart. She reminds us that broth has dopamine-regulating benefits, and helps improve brain function, & build stronger bones. Finally, she tells of how ancient cultures included bones in their diet and how we would do well to reacquaint ourselves with this health-preserving tradition ourselves.

Sometimes we think we have to do one GINORMOUS thing to make a difference in the world. But even a drop in the bucket can help fill a bucket to the point of overflowing. Dr. Devin Vrana is the owner of Light House Chiropractic & Acupuncture and the host of the "IF THEY KNEW" podcast.

Today, Devin discusses the restrictions that have been placed on people worldwide and the agenda behind them. She asks important questions such as: how and why has the medical freedom movement been summarily labeled and dismissed? What, besides public health concerns, could possibly be behind the mask mandates? And what can the average person do to make a difference given our current circumstance? A self-described momma bear, Devin offers thought-provoking, candid insights on the front lines of medical freedom advocacy.

Autism rates have skyrocketed over the last few decades. The first autism prevalence study in 1970 showed an autism rate of less than 1 in 10,000 kids. Today in the U.S., the autism rate is 1 in 36 children. Sometimes we hear the stats, but the implications don’t quite register. Dr. Toby Rogers discusses today what these numbers look like in real life. Toby has a profound understanding of the public health problem of autism, from how it impacts parents, to the economy, to the world at large. He has a Ph.D. in political economy from the University of Sydney in Australia. He tells the story of how he took the deep dive into what increases the risk of autism. He discusses the indirect and direct costs of caring for those with autism, and the grassroots communities that are coming together to stop the autism epidemic.

Pesticides are absorbed into the tissues of fruits, vegetables, and legumes, so we cannot simply wash them off and declare them safe to eat. GMOs do not create higher crop yields. Switching from conventional to organic food has the potential to reverse eczema, infertility, and other health conditions. Today, Jeffrey Smith of the Institute for Responsible Technology discusses the importance of understanding the “secret ingredients” that are making us sick. He explains how many chronic ailments and degenerative diseases are tied to GMOs, pesticides and herbicides. He discusses the new technique of “gene editing,” reviews the problem of Roundup, and offers suggestions for removing these secret ingredients from our diet altogether.

There’s a lot that feels out of control at this moment in history. But there are a few things we still have agency over. One is the freedom to choose what happens to our bodies. But is this freedom in jeopardy? Del Bigtree, the host and producer of the internet talk show, The Highwire, and the producer of the documentary “Vaxxed,” discusses the dangers and the opportunities that come at this pivotal time. We have the chance to defend our ability to choose what happens to our body, even as threats appear on the horizon to encroach on that freedom. He discusses the plans in the works for an adult vaccine mandate in the United States, the many organizations working together to increase public awareness of vaccine risks, and how we can defend our health freedoms. And he emphasizes the importance of defending bodily autonomy for our sake and the sake of our children.

We've spent most of 2020 under the assumption that there is a contagious disease spreading and that we have to do what we can to sanitize our environment and stay away from one another to avoid infection and death. But has the coronavirus actually been proven to be contagious? Has it even been proven to be a virus in the first place? Joining Holistic Hilda on the show, Sally Fallon Morell, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation, challenges these assumptions we've been operating under. This discussion centers around the information in the summer edition of the Wise Traditions journal and her research and work with Dr. Tom Cowan, the co-author of The Contagion Myth.

To be clear, Sally is not suggesting that there is no sickness. However, she asks us to look at the illness differently. She explains why what’s been labeled a virus may actually be a natural process in the body and she goes into why toxins in our environment may be the driving force behind this health crisis. She also offers insights about what is behind the mainstream narrative that points to a contagious pandemic. She challenges us to think critically and consider what is happening through a different lens, which in turn may lead us to new conclusions to promote health and wellbeing.

It’s challenging to discern fact from fiction these days---in terms of the virus, vaccines, and just about everything else. What’s really happening? Lori Gregory and Dr. Andy Wakefield discuss on this podcast how much our times resemble those of the fictitious novel “1984.” Their recent movie “1986: The Act” also touches on the topic of cover-ups, misinformation, and the problems related to the vaccine injury court established in 1986.

They talk about the importance of understanding the risks involved in vaccines and of trusting maternal intuition. They discuss how to distinguish fact from fiction in our surreal times. And they offer ideas for defending our health freedom at this critical juncture in history.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sounds the alarm bells about the level of censorship in our country. Today he discusses why our Bill of Rights is being trampled on—from the lack of freedom to a jury trial (when it comes to vaccine injury) to the purging of posts on social media platforms that runs contrary to the mainstream narrative when it comes to our current health crisis. He describes groups that are forming to preserve our health freedoms, his own recent experience with censorship, and why the free access to information and the right to form our own thoughts and opinions is critical to democracy.

Yes, being salty is a good thing, when we're talking about including unrefined, natural salt in the diet! All traditional people groups included some salt in the diet. We would do well to do the same. Low salt consumption has been linked to metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, poor digestion, parasites, and even depression. And salt is actually essential for proper brain and body functionality, helping with hormonal function and restorative sleep, for example.

Sally Fallon Morell, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation, explains why salt is an essential (though often overlooked) part of the diet. She reviews the types of unrefined salt that are most recommended, why conventional medicine recommends lowering salt intake, and the many benefits salt has to offer.
